The more severe and/or more chronic the symptoms,
the more likely that combination medications will be
needed. An appropriate pharmacologic management
plan, along with patient education, can provide signifi-
cant relief of allergic rhinitis symptoms and improve
quality of life. If goals are not being achieved, refer the
patient to a board-certified allergist/NP for medication
adjustment and consideration of subcutaneous im-
munotherapy.
